PhD Student of the Department Completes Three-Year International Research Program Supported by NIMH and Fogarty International Center

Oksana Cherevko, a PhD student at the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurology, with Courses in Psychiatry, Narcology, Medical Psychology, and Occupational Diseases, has successfully completed a three-year training program under a prestigious international project at the Academic and Research Medical Institute of Sumy State University.

The project, titled “Building Research Capacity and Implementing Evidence-Based Trauma-Focused Therapy for PTSD and Psychological Trauma Following Mass Violence in Ukraine 2023-2025”, is funded by the Fogarty International Centre D43 and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) of the United States.

During the program, Oksana Cherevko acquired advanced theoretical and practical skills in:

  • Evidence-based psychopharmacotherapy and psychotherapy for PTSD
  • Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy
  • Written Exposure Therapy (WET)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

As part of the initiative, she was awarded a research fellowship for an internship at Texas A&M University. From June 12 to July 9, 2025, in Houston and College Station, Texas, USA, she focused on research methodology, biostatistics, and the implementation of evidence-based interventions in clinical settings.
